Neighborhood Watch |
|
According to our local police, Discovery Harbour enjoys a low crime rate. Most of us think that our Neighborhood Watch (NW) program plays a significant part. At 5 pm on the third Monday of each month we meet in our community center meeting hall to discuss events with police personnel and to catch up on each member’s input. Recently, a NW member was responding to a suspicious vehicle report and saw a fusible link burst, which caused a power failure in sections of our community. Not only were police quickly on scene for the suspicious vehicle, our NW member informed HELCO exactly where the power problem was. One of our goals is to be watchful of unsafe driving activities, as we have had two fatal accidents in the last 18 months. This is an area where all of us can participate any time we see a problem. Although it may be uncomfortable to report an event such as this, it is preferable to attending a funeral. We are always looking for volunteers, as we have been under or minimally staffed. A NW tour takes about an hour per week. Not only do we get to see the community on a weekly basis, we get NW tee-shirts and reimbursement for our auto expenses, if desired. With your added participation, Discovery Harbour can be even better.
